The Importance of Accessibility

A quick google search on the meaning of accessibility led to a definition that really resonated: Accessibility is the practice of making information, activities, and/or environments sensible, meaningful, and usable for as many people as possible. Right away my body said “heck yes!” When I think about sharing the practice of yoga, I want to share it with as many people as possible!!! So what is the importance of accessibility and who does it apply to when it comes to a yoga studio? Let’s just cut to the chase here - the WHO, is of course YOU. And for this yoga studio, accessibility is e v e r y t h i n g. Our purpose is to provide a space that can bring a sense of safety as you explore your inner-self. It’s a space to reclaim your body as you learn to ground, connect to your inner vitality, and form a sense of stability from the inside out. To do all of that, you first need to feel like you can walk through the door, don’tcha agree!?

For our community, what that first entails is, drumroll please….AFFORDABLE PRICING! And second, classes that offer a wide range of ability level. No more $35 drop in prices and membership plans that costs a quarter of your rent. No more walking into a studio anxious that you’ll topple over midway through class because the instructor is cueing a handstand in the first 20 minutes… and like, you were just looking to, i dunno, umm, feel a sense of peace and connect to your heart’s inner knowing. Listen, we’re not knocking advanced poses, they can be such a fun exploration! But for the vast majority of us, nailing a handstand is not ACCESSIBLE. The benefits of yoga, such as, increased inner awareness, a balanced nervous system, and greater range of mobility, so you can tie your own shoes as you age, should be easily attainable for e v e r y o n e. Not just those with a gymnastic background and a secure corporate job with a built in 401k. Again, no shade if you fall into either of those categories. HOWEVER, we want to connect with all walks of life, people of different ages, with different upbringings, backgrounds, goals, and life experiences. We believe deeply that by providing classes that are challenging, but achievable, and at a price that is affordable - we all win! Yoga is a practice that ripples out and effects not only the practitioner, but the practitioner’s family, co-workers and anyone they meet along their path. When we are rooted in a sense of self, from a place of safety and worth, that energy is palpable, baby! A better you, means a better world, and we want to help.

We hope you’ll join us in the studio this week, and the week after, and to infinity and beyond. Fulfilling our purpose as you fulfill yours, together. See you soon. Xx.
